Fan fiction genres survey
This is an appeal to my fellow fan fiction readers and writers out there: I need your help! Im currently working on my PhD in fan fiction and popular literature genres, and this includes doing a short survey to gain some sort of overview over fan fiction readers and writers, and their fandoms and genres. Im especially interested in replies from Harry Potter, NCIS, and Doctor Who fans, but everyone else can reply as well. In fact, the more the better!
The survey is completely anonymous (I dont even log your IP address), and all required questions have a Would prefer not to say option. I honestly dont know how long it takes, that will depend on how detailed you want to answer some of the questions. It shouldnt take more than a few minutes if youre really in a rush, but please try to take your time! I also dont have any reward to offer, except my eternal thanks. If you do answer, the answers may be quoted or included in my doctorate thesis (and in a book version of my thesis if one is made).

Harry's scar and some help
I would like to know what others think, we all know the basilisk venom was used to destroy horcuxes. We also know Harry was bitten by a basilisk in his second year. So that points out a plot hole in Jk books but that is not what I wanted help with.
I wanted to know what others thought about a splinter being a horcux and it being in the scar after all Dumbledore said he was just going to leave it be as it could be useful later in life. The reason his scar hurt when Voldmort was near was the fact all his horcux heat up some when he is near.
I have a reason for Harry being able to speak Parseltongue, he will have a gift that once he hears a language he will know how to speak it, and it only takes a few hours of reading to have the same effect.
Please tell me what you think.

I know that many of you are in the midst of Memorial Day Weekend shenanigans, but I wanted to offer a quick mention that sign-ups for the fifth annual Remus/Sirius Games close at the end of the day on Tuesday, May 29. We welcome all writers and artists who love or are interested in trying their hand at this pairing, so please come sign up for Team Remus or Team Sirius! The prompts list goes up on June 1, and works are due September 21. Previous years have produced stellar works from some of the finest talent in the fandom. Potterpuff Cookies!
Let me tell you a little story. (Bear with me if you've perhaps heard it before. Stay for the cookies!)
There was this boy, see?
His name was Harry Potter.
And one day, a half-giant came to tell him he was really a wizard! He bought him a sweet little owl, too. :-)
So then he headed off to a wizard school which was founded a long time ago by four amazing wizards & witches.
He needed to learn more about his magic & powers to try to beat the evil wizard who killed his parents and tried to even kill him!
He had a bunch of teachers, but four teachers were the Heads of all the different Houses at the school.
And the school was run by a wise old teacher with a firey phoenix.
And Harry was Sorted into Gryffindor House, where he had classmates with runaway pet frogs. :-)
But despite the nice classmates, Harry found himself with enemies, too - specifically from Slytherin House.
It wasn't really their fault, of course. They were raised by prejudiced, evil Slytherin parents, too. :-/
